Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation – First Impressions

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation

– Retails for 89AUD at David Jones, as far as I can tell it hasn’t been released to the USA at time of upload.
– I used the shade 20 in this video, too light for my NC25(ish) skin with olive undertones. Better suited to an N20ish with neutral or peachy undertones.
– Application starts at 1:30
– Flash test at 3:20
– Second check in at 3:40
– Third check in at 4:45
– Summary and final thoughts at 5:23

  1. I am just about to watch the video! I reward myself with these videos after long study periods, and I still have two more hours of studying left šŸ™ but DANG! that lipstick is PERFECT here!!

    1. Re-reading that it sounds a little creepy but it’s not! I study science all day long and make-up is my way to be creative! It’s so relaxing!

  2. I love this foundation, lol. And I do have dehydrated skin and am double your age! I do prefer a satin/matt finish though. The colour 20 is one of the best matches for me I’ve found, yep I am a N20! I’ve found other Chanel ’20’ foundations too yellow. I’m not finding any settling in lines and find a second spot application covers anything I want more coverage on.

I use fingers for application and aim for a light coverage. I like that you pretty much can’t see I have foundation on. And I like that I don’t have to powder it.

If you don’t like this foundation I don’t think you will like the CT Magic Foundation! I can’t find much difference between the 2.

    1. Poppy, thanks for your review too! I’m in your age bracket and looking for a Chanel foundation to replace my beloved Chanel Cc cream in beige rose color that they discontinued! I’ve been waiting to try this foundation. I wondered if you’ve tried other Chanel and how this compares. Vitalumiere Aqua is too light coverage for me so it sits in my drawer.

Karima, you may not love the foundation but you look stunning in this tutorial. It made me go look for the Kiko eyeshadows!

  3. If alcohol wasn’t on the ingredient list, I’d try this once it’s released in the US.

I’m assuming the alcohol Chanel uses in their foundations is alcohol denat. My understanding is alcohol (denat, SD, and isopropyl, that is — the ethanols) can dry out the skin, and while it can keep any oiliness I’d experience at bay (oily t-zone), it could then make me produce more oil to compensate. The other thing is alcohol can strip the skin of its protective barrier, cause stuff NOT to penetrate properly, and cause free-radical damage. Not something I want in my mid-thirties.

(Fatty alcohols — cetyl, cetearyl, and stearyl — are generally fine.)

For your next first impressions… CT’s Magic Foundation, perhaps? Or maybe something like that Givenchy cushion foundation you posted on IG a little while back, if you’ve not tried it already? (Any cushion foundation would do.)

  4. Would love you to review Clinique Beyond Perfecting foundation. Rave reviews by many, but I share your skin type, so trust your opinion.
Also, love your lashes… What are they?

  5. Have you heard of the new (to me) Illamasqua gel contour stick? It looks like it’s veryyyy sheer and thus very skin like. I would love to hear your thoughts on it. x

  6. I had a similar experience when I trialled it. Felt more matte than I’d hoped and definitely dried me out- especially on the nose. Can you please trial what I think might be my HG foundation? Ellis Faas. I know that it’s super pricey, that it is housed in a glass bottle or the eternally frustrating click pen… But from what I have tested in store at Mecca it is neutral toned heaven with a dewy, hydrating and long lasting finish. Would love to know what you think before I plunge myself into foundation debt šŸ™‚

  7. I have absolutely fallen in love with your blog over the past few months! I love how much detail you go into and the looks you create are gorgeous.

I’m looking to buy a new foundation but I am so overwhelmed by how many options there are. I’ve used several different brands in the past and I’ve tried so many different samples but I haven’t found ‘the one’! I have combination skin that has dry patches on my nose and chin but I also get a very oily t zone and make up seems to either awkwardly sit on my skin like a mask or completely vanish by the end of the day. What I really want is a foundation that is easy to apply, goes on really smoothly and sets to a matte or semi-matte finish. I know that you can’t diagnose my skin from afar but I was wondering if you have any tips on what I should be looking for in a foundation or a brand that is particularly good for combination skin? I’m never sure if it’s the makeup that’s wrong for me or if it’s just my shoddy application skills making it look bad!

Thanks so much for the great posts and lovely videos. They brighten up my day šŸ™‚

    1. Hey Rachel,
Correct me if I’m wrong but it sounds like you have a patchwork of different skin types on your face (oily, dry, flaky etc)? If so, you might have to treat different areas of your face accordingly.
What foundation have you tried that comes closest to your preferences? Do you use any primers?
      xx

      1. Hi Karima!

Thanks for replying. Yes, I do have patches on my face that are different. On my nose and chin I get dry patches that foundation/concealer always catches on while my cheeks and forehead are very oily. The only primer I’ve tried is a Bare Minerals one and I found that it sort of peeled off when I put my foundation on. Foundations I’ve tried are Estee Lauder doublewear (too thick and dry), Chanel Aqua lumiere (sort of slid off my face with oiliness), a couple of BB creams (too oily) and Bourgeois Healthy Mix (too dry and caught on the flaky patches). The closest to my preferences that I’ve found so far is Chanel Perfection Lumiere, although that was still a little too dry. Do you think it’s the primer that’s the problem?

      2. Which BareMinerals primer did you try? (There are several variations.) You may need more than one.

What’s your skincare routine? Do you exfoliate?

I think Vitalumiere Aqua also has a high alcohol content. (Really wish all brands would put their product ingredient lists online.)

      3. It was the primetime primer. I’ve finished it now so I’m in the market for a new one. My skin care routine is probably a bit all over the place. I use the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo three-step system. I don’t really exfoliate as I am worried about making it even more sensitive/irritated.

      4. If Chanel Perfection Lumiere is the closest you’ve found, I’d stick with that and attempt to treat the flaky patches. My favourite primer for flakiness is the Hourglass No28 Serum Primer (you need a TINY amount just to flaky areas). Also agree with commenter above, some light exfoliation (some people tolerate a cloth, others prefer mild chemical exfoliants) will eliminate flakiness.
        xx

      5. Just wanted to check back in to tell you that I’ve almost sorted out my skin/foundation problems. Thought there might be other people out there struggling with the same issues so I wanted to explain how I did it.

Firstly, I went to my doctor and asked him to look at my skin. For a long while (years) I had assumed that the flaky red bits were just really dry skin. So I slathered them in moisturiser but they never seemed to improve. Then I read some stuff online about perioral dermatitis and it sounded like what I had. My doctor prescribed some cream for that, but my symptoms (itchiness, flaky patches with little bumps in them) didn’t go away. I went back and he said that it could be a fungal infection and gave me another cream. That cleared up the problem within the space of about a week! The skin around my nose is still naturally a bit red, but now that it isn’t flaky or sore it is much easier to cover with makeup. My doctor also prescribed a topical treatment for mild acne but that is still in progress.

With regards to makeup, I went through a tiresome, but I think very important process of visiting every makeup counter and collecting samples. So many brands tried to flog me foundation that was wrong for my skin type or didn’t match my colour. This is why I think it’s really important to try out at home. I took pictures and asked my mum for her opinion, which is often brutal but always honest. I eventually found the one: Armani Lasting Silk. It is the only foundation I have found that stays on my skin all day, but manages to look reasonably natural. I also use Chanel Le Blanc as a primer, and I find they work really well together. The oiliness in my skin is still there but I find I can easily control it with a bit of powder – Laura Mercier translucent powder is the one I use.

Apologies for the lengthy comment but just thought I should share my experience in case anyone has similar skin problems.

Lastly, I want to say thanks to you Karima for your brilliant, incredibly detailed tutorials. I also don’t know of another MUA who is so committed to responding to comments, something that is very much appreciated!

        xxx
