A little while back, I posted a haul that included a Tatcha Skincare Sampler Set. I’m fairly unadventurous with my skincare routine so I’m not sure what led to this purchase…perhaps it was due to the fact Tatcha oozes luxe, geisha-glamour? Pretty sure that was it.
I’m not going to do a full review of the sampler set because to be honest, I don’t have much to say- it was just nice.
If I had to form some opinions, I’d say the Deep Brightening Serum was lightly hydrating (albeit a minor stinging sensation upon application) and the Enriching Renewal Cream was highly hydrating (so much so that I think it wouldn’t work well under makeup). The Moisturise Rich Silk Cream was somewhere in between. Overall, I didn’t notice any effects greater than hydration although, at 22, I may not be the best judge.
So Tatcha hydration products were a meh for me, but I am impressed with their Blotting Papers (old favourites and no surprises) and their Rice Enzyme Powders. In my sampler set I received sachets of two of the three available powders; Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder and Deep Rice Enzyme Powder. I went on to purchase the Classic Rice Enzyme Powder, because there is no method to my madness.
A similar concept to the Dermalogica Microfoliant, Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder is a fine powder that emulsifies with water to cleanse and gently exfoliate the skin. I aim to create a thin, paste-like consistency, which I massage into the skin for 30 seconds and rinse.
Some particulars on the powder; it is perfectly white, whereas the deep version is tinted green and the gentle light pink. I could only detect one dissimilarity between the three formulations- lather. Strangely, the gentle formulation has a strong lather while the deep and classic versions exhibit very little. All three had non-offensive scent and each had a similar effect on my skin.
Although Tatcha claims that there are no Sulfate Detergents in their products, there is most definitely some cleansing agent in this formulation- it leaves the skin almost squeaky clean. I know, I know… one should not desire such squeakiness but it’s somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine. Despite this, it hasn’t appeared to cause any dryness with biweekly use.
Overall effect on my skin…
My skin feels deeply cleansed and polished. A few people have commented that my skin appears to have a sheen, which I can attribute to the exfoliation benefits of this product. I notice that my skin looks brighter and any congestion issues resolved. I should mention that this will not remove makeup or sunscreen, it is primarily an exfoliant with cleansing benefits.
I’d say this product would be ideal for normal to oily skins, as the cleansing action may render dry skin types tight and uncomfortable. Those looking for a gentle exfoliant will enjoy this product.
