We’re back with Rouge Terrybly Part 2: the PEENKS!

The Rouge Terrybly lowdown/collective review can be found here. Today the spotlight is on shades Torrid Rose, Pink Party and Cherry Cherry.

By Terry Rouge Terrybly Part 2: Torrid Rose, Pink Party, Cherry Cherry

Rouge Terrybly in Torrid Rose #303

I frequently associate rose shades with muted, brown mixes but that’s where torrid comes in: Torrid Rose can be described as a medium, brightened pink with a rosy hue. Definitely on the cooler spectrum, it bears some resemblance to Cherry Cherry in swatches but is discernibly lighter and less purple. Torrid Rose strikes a good medium; bright enough that it adds interest but light and muted enough that it can be worn with a stronger eye without fear of OTT, multi-focal point conflict.

Torrid Rose lives up to Rouge Terrybly reputation: ultra pigmented, ultra creamy, stains and wears evenly, not a lipline or flake in sight.

I decided to pair Torrid Rose with the Tom Ford Orchid Haze Eyeshadow Quad, which I wholeheartedly intended on reviewing until I discovered… I didn’t have much to say. The formula of the eyeshadows is gorgeous, creamy and pigmented but the colour story has me on the fence – slightly muddy? slightly blah? lacking wow-factor? I DON’T KNOW, I’ve been sitting on this fence for months and my bum hurts.

By Terry Rouge Terrybly Part 2: Torrid Rose, Pink Party, Cherry Cherry

By Terry Rouge Terrybly – Torrid Rose #303 // A brightened yet harmonious choice with this eye, if I may say so myself
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz – Medium Ash // Used in all three looks because I’m lazy and can use this with my eyes closed
Tom Ford Eyeshadow Quad – Orchid Haze // Makes my brain and bum hurt
Makeup Geek Eyeshadow – Corrupt // Used with a damp brush for foolproof winged liner
Ardell Lashes – #301 // Subtle half sets and the easiest lashes ever because it was a lazy day OKAY
NYX Blush – Taupe // A good contour shade for cooler looks. On closer inspection, not entirely matte

Rouge Terrybly in Pink Party #301

If Pink Party were truly a party, it would be one hell of a night: Patron, feathers, fancy hats. It is NEON PEENK, like NARS Schiap or Candy Yum-Yum status, but much classier because By Terry doesn’t concern herself with such frivolities *flicks hair*
But really. You know how I feel about neon lipsticks; I saw Pink Party on the counter and promptly lost my sh*t.

Ahem. Pink Party is a perfectly composed, true neon pink – it’s blue based but not muddled with any purple, which you can distinguish in the swatches (against the purpled Cherry Cherry). There must be some white in the base to achieve this level of vibrancy but thankfully: no dreaded white lines, no settling into vertical liplines and no emphasis on texture.

Pink Party makes my lips look as though they are in great condition, which is a major minor miracle – fantastic longevity with no compromise on lip comfort. If you’re looking for a luxe neon lipstick, this is the Rolls Royce.

My camera and your screens aren’t capturing the full vibrancy. As I know no restraint or moderation, I paired the cool Pink Party with a vibrant copper-orange eye for some tonal clash (shamelessly inspired by Vogue-esque shoots) and kept it modern with blown out placements and clean-looking skin.

By Terry Rouge Terrybly Part 2: Torrid Rose, Pink Party, Cherry Cherry

By Terry Rouge Terrybly – Pink Party #301 // I’m salivating
MAC Eyeshadow – Coppering // On lid and lower lashline. Vibrant, orange-copper that extracts any green in my eyes
Guerlain Four Seasons Bronzer – Ebony // A mixture of shades (mostly coral) through the crease for a lineless, blown out placement
Illamasqua Eye Pencil – Vow // A nude pencil for the lower waterline to detach the orange from the whites of my eyes
Liz Martins Select – Individual Lashes // Includes a variety of weights. My pick for ultra feathery, bushy lashes. Randomly placed
Shiseido – High Beam White WT905 // Need to review this. Dusted on the cheekbones and… all over ma face. Perfectly neutral white ensures that the tonal-clash is confined to the eyes and the lips

Rouge Terrybly in Cherry Cherry #304

The pink with most depth, Cherry Cherry is best described as a deep fuschia with a strong purple lean. This one seems to have more slip than the rest of the Rouge Terrybly line so if you constantly battle with bleeding out of the lipline, be wary. Otherwise, it’s very comfortable on the lips, wears evenly and the pigment is strong – all my swatches are a single swipe.

I always struggle to pair Cherry Cherry, I prefer it with an otherwise understated face but I wanted to keep things fresh so I opted for SUQQU Sumiredama Quad. In order to bring out the blue duochrome, I layered the shadows over a blue base AND BAM, accidental reacquaintance with my arch nemesis: blue eyeshadow. More blue than I anticipated. Blue… we meet again…

I must admit, deep blues make brown eyes glow, but I still wasn’t happy about it.

By Terry Rouge Terrybly Part 2: Torrid Rose, Pink Party, Cherry Cherry

By Terry Rouge Terrybly – Cherry Cherry #304 // Cool undertones mirrored on the eyes and lips
Makeup Forever Aqua Cream – Shade 20 // I dislike this formula. Dry and patchy when used as an eyeshadow base
SUQQU Eyeshadow Quad – Sumiredama // Better without the blue base, don’t mess with perfection
MAC Eyeshadow – Swiss Chocolate // Furiously blended through the crease to neutralise the blue
Makeup Geek Gel Liner – Electric // In the lower waterline. If you recall, I disliked this for winged eyeliner and my dislike extends to waterline use. Wears like iron but made my eyes water like a mofo
Geisha Ink – Liquid Liner in Black // Still the best liquid liner on the market, in my opinion
House of Lashes – Sweet Romance // We got a bold eye and a bold lip… why not go all the way?!

So that’s six out of the ten Rouge Terrybly done! Are you enjoying this? I’m enjoying this. Tune in for lighter, nude shades in the next post.

  1. In love with you – I mean your eye looks (as well as the overall looks), Karima! Gosh!! Too beautiful. I think I scrolled one too many times to check them out again and again. LOL!!

  2. Each time I see one of your make-up looks, it makes me want to be even more delicate and precise in my application. I hope your blog and Youtube channel get more visibility soon, you realy deserve it !

  3. I strongly, strongly believe you are the most beautiful woman ever invented, so, well done genetics. These lippies are gorgeous! So pigmented and every shade looks beaut on you. Lovely job pairing the make up looks with the colours. In awe. T xx

  4. Torrid Rose is sooo pretty! My By Terry wishlist is growing…
I have the Tom Ford Orchid Haze quad and I quite like it. Maybe the colors don’t stand out as much as some of those in other Tom Ford quads, but I find them more wearable and the formula is indeed amazing. Anyway, I love how you used it in this look and I’m copying!

    1. It is a very pretty colour πŸ™‚ I see it working on most skintones, too. I think that’s what it is, the Orchid Haze shades are more subtle that I’m used to seeing in Tom Ford quads. I do LIKE it, but I’m not sure if I LOVE it on me, know what I mean? I’d love to see a picture if you do something similar! xx

  5. I’m almost embarrassed to say that I bought Cherry Cherry and returned it. Granted, I was unemployed at the time, shouldn’t be spending any money much less that much, and it looked like a lot of other pinks I owned… And now I want it back!

Also, shut up, that blue looks brilliant on you!!

    Shani x

    1. How did you like the formula, though? It’s a great one but if you have pinks similar, not sure that you ‘need’ it (being realistic here!). Blue looks brilliant on me? I must be wrong, thanks for your comment πŸ™‚ xx

  6. If anyone ever told me orange eyeshadow and pink lips would look stunning together, I would slap their brains out…. But it’s so lovely…. And I don’ like orange at all… nor pink.

You did it again, girl! πŸ™‚
    Can’t wait for the neutrals.

  7. All of these look utterly beautiful! Your makeup application makes me want to cry, it’s so stunning and you can see how much effort you put into putting everything together. Can’t wait for part 3! xoxo

  8. I knew this would be the post that tried my restraint – I like how neutral-with-a-twist Torrid Rose is! (Chants to self: I do not need another lipstick.)

And I actually like Sumiredama over blue on you! Though I agree I like it MORE on its own. Still, you definitely pull it off.

    1. Hey Adele! One can never have too many lipsticks (awful, aren’t I?) πŸ˜‰
Apparently a lot of people like blue on me, maybe it’s all in my head?! xx

  9. I’ve been reading your blog and really enjoy your style in writing as well as makeup. I love the first look best, it is very elegant and well executed. A tutorial would be much appreciated, I almost ordered the Orchid Haze but realized I have similar shades already. I think the blue eyeshadow looks fantastic on you. You have beautiful skin and face.

    1. Hey Carlyn! I’m so pleased you like the blog πŸ™‚ I actually might do a tutorial on this look because a lot of people seemed to enjoy it! Thanks for your kind words πŸ™‚ xx

  10. I love these looks Karima! I now MUST have Torrid and Cherry Cherry. And the blue looks great on you. I also vote for a Orchid Haze tutorial – I have that quad and I really like the way it looks with my skin tone but your application looks so much more interesting than mine. I’m curious to see your color placement.

I never got to have my session with Terry herself πŸ™ Super Big Boo Hoo. She wasn’t able to make it to NYC due to snow storm. Barney’s promised me I’d be first on their list if she comes back.

Really looking forward to NUDES!!! YAY.
    SJ

    1. Yes you MUST have Cherry Cherry and Torrid! Still tossing on that blue lol.
Yeah I might do that Orchid Haze tutorial, so you guys can see it in action. What placement do you normally do with this palette? Curious.
BOO. The snow storm was pretty intense while I was there so I can understand! xx

    2. I’m trying to do it like this:
      https://foreverasleep.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/apply-eyeshadow-guide.jpg
But the problem is I have too much of the dark shade above my lash line, if that makes sense. Or else these colors don’t look good near the lash line and need to be in the outer outer outer V πŸ™‚ Like that part right above the iris needs to be lighter. Hope that makes sense.

In your version – the Orchid colors tend to take center stage. Whereas in my version the darker colors dominate which looks too heavy on me.

      xoxo SJ

      1. How is your lid-space? If you don’t have much lid space, the dark shade on the lid may be overwhelming to you. Try this: once you’ve done all your shading, take one of the lighter shades in the palette and pop it on the ball of your eye, right above the iris. This may inject a bit of dimension/lightness and that may help. Report back! xx

    3. You are spot on – I have a small lid space. I will give your suggestion a go and report back. What’s odd to me is that for some of my even darker palettes I don’t seem to have the problem to the same degree that I do with this one. The Orchid colors just get lost. Maybe because of my small lid space, I can only blend two or maybe three of the colors without getting the Orchids lost.
      Thanks for the tip!!
      xo

      1. Yep, I have slightly heavy eyelids so I also use center lid highlights to stop everything looking too heavy/dark. AND YES, I’ve found the textures of Orchid Haze are conducive to…overblending? And the shades get long amongst one another- I think that’s why I described it as ‘muddy’. I totally see where you’re coming from, I’ve found using a base (with a bit of grip, like MAC paint pots) definitely helps the product to stick and not all blend into a cloud of darkness.
Am I making sense? LOL. I hope so. xx

  11. I just died and went to pink lipstick heaven. These are so beautiful. And they look amazing on you.
Pink Party is calling out to me.

  12. Karima,

I rarely comment on blogs but I just wanted to say you are hands down one of the most professional, classy and genuine bloggers out there. Top 3 I’d say. I love your work – you inspire me so much! Much love from Venezuela.

    Xoxo

    1. Hey Patricia πŸ™‚ I see you around on my facebook page yes? Thanks so much for your support, it really means a lot. Very encouraging! Love from Australa πŸ™‚ xx

  13. I agree with you. It certainly doesn’t look bad, far from it… but warmer colours really bring out your natural glow. Great post as usual lovely!

  14. Oh my, Karima!

I love all three on you but especially Cherry Cherry paired with those Sumiredama shades! You’ve instilled within me a lemming for that palette now, I adore that duochrome.

  15. I just love your blog and YouTube. My bank account doesn’t love you quite as much. I purchased Tom Ford’s Cognac Sable after seeing one of your wonderful tutorials, and now I’ve just put in an order for Torrid Rose. By chance, have you used the Terrybly Densiliss foundation? I hear it’s lovely, but that price tag…

    1. Send my apologies to your bank account πŸ˜‰ How do you like Cognac Sable? That is such a special quad to me, I feel so glamorous when I wear it. I actually do own the Densiliss foundation! I still need to test it further but first impressions: geared towards an oilier skin type, medium coverage, satin-matte finish. I think I still prefer my beloved Armani Lasting Silk (especially give the price tag of Densiliss, ouch!) xx

  16. Pink Party. It got me. I promised myself I wouldn’t succumb to the lure of the ($50.00!) super luxe lippie, but…the color. The COLOR.
I am very pleased with my purchase…lots of compliments from complete strangers today!

Now I haz a challenge for U. Since your taste appears to be remarkably similar to mine…I dare, double dog dare, nay, TRIPLE deputy dawg dare ya to resist the lure of the Smashbox Be Legendary Long Wear Lip Lacquer in KNOCKOUT. From a fellow shredded lip sufferer…so freakin wearable and feels great on! Be forewarned…its force field will suck you in and force your brains out your nostrils when you SEE THIS COLOR.

GIRLFRIEND. YOU. MUST. TRY. Bought it today after clearing out the grey matter from my nares.
Let me know how you get on…

Perhaps a summer bright lip lacquer/stain bathroom smackdown is in order here? I love dem.
    Xxx

    1. Pink Party is a special one πŸ˜‰ Glad you like it, too!

I need not resist any fabulous lipstick, I’ll check out the Smashbox Lacquer next time I’m in store πŸ™‚ Thanks for the heads up!

      xx
